Expressing Our Praise to the Lord
BIBLE MEDITATION ... "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands." Psalm 100:1
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT ...There's nothing wrong with getting excited in church. I heard about a man who came to a cold church. The preacher said something he agreed with and he said, "Amen." Everybody turned around and looked at him. After awhile he said, "Praise the Lord." Then people arched their eyebrows. Next time he said "Amen" an usher tapped him on the shoulder to quiet him down. The usher said, "What is wrong with you?" He said, "Well, nothing. I've just got religion." To which the usher curtly replied, "Well, mister, you didn't get it here." It's easier to cool down a zealot than it is to warm up a corpse.
ACTION POINT ...What does it mean to make a joyful noise unto the Lord? How do you make a joyful noise to Him...not just on Sundays in church, but all week long? Sing one of your favorite hymns throughout the day today.
CHURCH CAMP ...Mark your calendars. Save the date. Take vacation. July 14-21, 2012. Church camp needs you! Our goal this year is to have all of our young people at camp, but that depends on you. Pray about how God would have you be involved.

Burning Brightly for the Glory of God
BIBLE MEDITATION ... "And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush." Exodus 3:2
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT ...Major Ian Thomas has imagined Moses saying something like this when he encountered God in the burning bush, "Would you look at that bush? It just keeps on burning for God. I wish my life could burn for God like that and keep on burning." Then Major Thomas imagined God replying, "Moses, you think this bush is so wonderful? Do you see that bush over there? I could do the same thing with it. Moses, it's not the bush--it's God in the bush. Any old bush will do." It's not you! It's not me! We are only the vessels of God's anointing. As you surrender yourself to God today, He will fill you and use you for His glory.
ACTION POINT ...Surrender yourself to God today. And as you do, He will use you. Allow His flame to burn brightly for all to see.

God the Father and God the Creator
BIBLE MEDITATION ..."...that we may be partakers of the divine nature." 2 Peter 1:4
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT ...Have you heard the phrase, "The universal fatherhood of God and the universal brotherhood of men"? It sounds warm and fuzzy, but it is cold and barren of truth. God is not the Father of all people; God is the Father of those who are born into His family. But you say, "But pastor, didn't God create all human beings?" Yes. "And if God created all human beings, wouldn't that make God the Father of all human beings?" No, it makes God the creator of all human beings. There's a difference between fatherhood and creation. God created rats, roaches, buzzards, and rattlesnakes. He's not their father. God becomes our Father not by creation, but by conception when we're born into His family.
ACTION POINT ...Read the story of creation in Genesis--making the distinction between the creations of God and the Creator called God. Go on a nature walk and thank God that He rules over creation, causing the sun to shine, the rain to water the earth, and for you to have your next breath.
SYMPATHIES ...Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Bobby and Betty Harrison due to Betty’s home-going on Friday, January 6, 2012 from Hubbard Hospice House after a short illness. The Best Advice I've Ever Read
BIBLE MEDITATION ..."But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be My people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you." Jeremiah 7:23
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT ...I've always enjoyed a good debate. But when it comes to what God tells us to do, there's not much to debate about, wouldn't you agree? Let me give you some of the best advice I've ever read. It was what Jesus' mother, Mary, said at the wedding feast in Cana when the wedding party ran out of wine. She said, "Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it" (John 2:5b). Oh, that we would live at that level of obedience! Jesus touched the water pots with His divine finger of omnipotence, and the water turned to wine. The Bible tells us the people didn't understand, but it tells us "the servants which drew the water knew" (John 2:9b).
ACTION POINT ...Do you want insight into God? You will never know God by studying the Bible. You will know God when you obey the Bible.
SYMPATHY ...Our deepest sympathy goes out to Carolene Arthur due to the death of her mother, Evelyn Erlewine on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at home after an extend illness. There was a celebration of her life on Monday, January 2, 2012 with her three grand-children doing the eulogy. It was quite a tribute paid her by those who knew her best. It spoke volumes about her and the legacy she left for all who knew her. Please pray for Carolene and family.

TODAY’S SERVICE ...Pastor’s Delbert and Travis will be preaching for the services today. As we face the New Year, may we determine to live one day at a time like the apostle Paul instructed us in Philippians 3:13-14, “Brethern, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

SYMPATHY ...Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Gilbert Lovejoy family due to Gilbert’s graduation on Wednesday, December 28, 2011; on this date Gilbert went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was a dedicated, loyal member of the body of Christ through this local church, faithful to all the services up until this disease made it impossible for him to attend. He has been and will continue to be missed by all who knew him. I want to thank his family for giving him such love and care, you should have absolutely no regrets; your care made his last days as good as they possibly could have been. There was a celebration of his life yesterday here at the church. Our loss is Heaven’s gain! Please pray for this family.
What You're Facing This Coming Year
BIBLE MEDITATION ..."But the LORD is my defense; and my God is the rock of my refuge." Psalm 94:22
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT ...When you get ready to really live for God, you are going to face three enemies. You're going to face those who are in despair--they're going to be howling calamity. You're going to face those with disdain--they're going to laugh at you. And you're going to face those with discouragement--they're going to say that it can't be done. And you better learn to silence their voices. How do you do that? Get alone in the secret counsel halls of the Almighty and get your eyes on God. If you listen to what those people say, you're not going to be victorious in what God is calling you to do. I believe David conquered Goliath because he got alone with God. I believe Joseph survived abandonment and imprisonment because he got alone with God.
ACTION POINT ...Who are your enemies today; and what are you doing to silence them? Get alone with God and listen.
Wreaths Across America ...Every year, on the second Saturday of December, an organization known as Wreaths Across America place fresh evergreen wreaths with hand tied red bows on the graves of veterans across the United States. The ceremony began in 1992 at Arlington National Cemetery, when the Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington, Massachusetts donated a surplus supply of its wreaths to decorate the graves of veterans buried at Arlington. Over the years, the event became so popular that it began to expand beyond what could reasonably be donated by the Worcester Wreath Company. Thus, the non-profit Wreaths Across America was formed. Wreaths Across America accepts donations and sponsorships to lay fresh evergreen wreaths on as many veterans’ graves as possible at cemeteries all across the United States. Sponsorship of one Wreath is $15.00. This year, the Rock Branch Ladies’ Aid sponsored wreaths in honor of currently active military personnel associated with our church. The wreaths were laid in a special ceremony at Legion Field in Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston, WV. Larry and Martha Cook participated in the laying of these wreaths and felt very honored to be a part of this ceremony. Those we honored are as follows: Eddie Jarrett, Dossen Estep, Zach Cyrus, David Fisher, Brent Monday, Ryan Persinger, Mike Kersey, Steve Akers and a wreath was placed in Memory of David Hoffman. For more information go to www.wreathsacrossamerica.org
